A heavy set!

In my quest to somewhat replicate Peter Buck's famous "stock" 360 (can one replicate a stock guitar?), I have attempted to put a similar gauge string set on mine.

I put on D'Addario's, since that's all I could get at the time. Buck's are Markley's (or were at one time). They
are .013, .017, .026 (wound), .036, .046, and .052. The 6th string should be .056, but 3 stores didn't have one.

After putting them on, four of the six of course did not fit into the nut slots. I actually tried hammering in the strings because it seemed like the thing to do. I called Jim Rhoads, who informed me that yes, I'd have to have the nut slots widened and adjust the truss rod, which I guess I knew I would have to do.

So now that it's done, I have to say that I really like the sound a lot. Very bright and a bit mean sounding. The 6th string may be a bit less bright, and I'm wondering if the slot isn't wide enough and thus muting the string a tad. I can only assume that the guy that did it knew what he was doing -- he seemed to think it was a "no brainer".

well, I put ricks back on my 660/12, and I like them much better than the pyramids (which I love on my basses) I still need to have the guitar adjusted (it's about 50 cents at the 12th fret), so when I have the time, I will the actually see how this puppy plays.
