1968 Grammy Awards the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band took Album of the year awards....man time files! Not only was the material land breaking, but the sound of the bass there was one of the driving factors in steering me to Rickenbackers. I’m sure others can make similar statements about the effects of that band/album. Congrats to the Fab Four!!!

I was only 4 but I remember visiting my grandparents on Frederick Street at Stanyan. Stanyan is where the panhandle ends and the park opens wide. I clearly remember homeless teenagers sleeping two deep on the stoop that led to the front door. More than one never woke up. It wasn't all peace, love and tie dye. Crime, drug addiction and alcoholism were more evident from my Frederick St. point of view than any Summer of Love. I always knew when it was too much for my grandparents, they simply would spend the night at our house. We were closer to the beach about 10 blocks from the park. My grandfather was no pushover. He was an old teamster. He would come to our house so he wouldn't go to jail.

My older brother and sister were into the hippie scene, but they spent most of their time at Winterland and Fillmore West. Even they avoided the Park/

I'm with you, David....junior high school (they call it middle school now). Joined my first band with an honest but futile attempt to recreate the Beatles sound. Didn't really know much about Rickenbacker back then.....had a sunburst double pickup Melody Maker played through a Fender Super Reverb. Whew.....they'd both be worth a little more now!!

Yoko, oh no, Craig! Flashback to what I got rid of after we entered the 70's......gulp! Sheeesh, can't even get it out of my mouth (as my body quivers)!

Back before the Grammys became such a joke.

What did it for me was when the singing group "A Taste of Honey" (you know--"Boogie Oogie Oogie"--you should really pick up their 5 cd boxed set) beat some no-talent named, i think, something like Elvis Costello for Best New Artist.

I was done after that.

My Grammy moment was when The Starland Vocal Band (1 hit, "Afternoon Delight") beat the Cars (lotsa hits) for Best New Artist.

Well they got it right with Sgt Pepper's! So I guess that falls into 'a blind pig will find an acorn every once in a while.....'

This was 15 years before I was born. I was seriously born 40 years too late. My taste in everything media related (movies, music, books, photography, art) is seated in the 60's. At least there's so many documents of the era that I can look back on.

Ah, I remember it well. Me being 1 year old and all!

I was 15 and wore out the record player with SPLHCB. It did change things in that record companies took more chances with new acts and musical experimentation. I add MJ's "Thriller" as a groundbreaker in that way also.
