I've seen guitars hung like this several times.

I hang my guitars similar to that - got it from Mandolin Bros., who i've personally seen hang six figure instruments like that in their store.

I would think it puts stress on the tuner/headstock attachment point.

Well I guess if the tuner screws are pre-drilled and a snug fit of tuner to headstock, and gently seated as the weight of the guitar is put upon the tuner shaft, and lifted very carefully off of the strung hanger point...well you get the picture.
I think this practice may have started when too many guitars were getting hanger marks on the neck at the nut from seating too long on the headstock hanger and leaving impressions in the finish.
Strapped on, seated in your lap, or in the case (hardshell) - but then what do dealers do to display or collectors for that fact....

That's a common way to hang guitars for photographs. With a nylon filament, you can make the guitar appear to be suspended in mid-air.
An example from Frank Ford's site:

I would love to know for sure. Can one hang a Ric or any other guitar by the headstock or the tuning pegs alone or should one not do that. Oh yea, watch what stand you put it on. It's just too much to worry about. I want an official list of acceptable guitar stands and a definitive yes or no on hanging guitars either which way. Please. I know I ask alot.
Have a great weekend all.
Thank you.

The strings on the guitar put a LOT MORE tension on the neck / guitar body.
Rest easy; the tuners are plenty strong enough to support the 6 - 8 lbs.
Personally I don't like to suspend guitars like that because it's too easy for them to George of the Jungle into walls and other instruments.

I have kids.
My guitars go directly into their cases when I am done playing them. Period.

I guess it's like one of those tricks: can your guitar lay on a bed of nails? firewalk?
