Anyone else find this Telecaster's appointments somewhat Rickish?

ummmm....no, not particularly. Oh, you talking about the color, or the pick guard maybe? Nah...

Black & gold, sure. Instantly conjures up images of this:

Beyond the already mentioned color combo, nothing really seems "Rickish" about it. I rather like Fenders with pickguards other than white. Anyway, black and gold make a very striking combo, same way that black/black, black/tortoise, black/white all do.

It has a gorgeous look with the body binding, black finish, and gold guard, but not Rick-ish.
Now if it had four controls, a three way switch, and some oven type knobs I would say it looked Rick-ish. If it were a thinline with all of the above and a slash soundhole, then it would most definitely be RIC-ish, and I'd even say call RIC legal!!

When I said "appointments", I was really referring to the finish, binding and pickguard colour. Telecasters obviously don't look like Rickenbackers, but I thought the trim gave the guitar a bit of Rick look.

Wow, I consider myself a huge JL fan, but I didn't get that. I thought maybe you were talking about the binding, but I didn't get any other Ric vibe from it. FWIW, I have Am Dlx Tele, in the faded cherryburst with a rosewood neck. That color combination seems more "Ricish" to me.

Great idea. Take two classic, highly-regarded designs and combine them, so that the result is strikingly less than the sums of its parts.

At one time, I sort of designed a pickguard shape to install on my Tele-copy to look more Rick-like, and also purchased a set of vintage knobs to swap out the chrome knurled knobs. However, in the end, it just didn't "work" and made it look more stupid than cool.

It's a Telebacker. Even the word doesn't look right.

The black/gold reminded me more of a 660 than a 325.

Toiletseatcaster?
The slash soundhole isn't bad, but I wouldn't have rounded the edges nor gotten rid of the PG; I would have done it OS style (no surprise there, I suppose)
