I've seen a few of those. They are pretty ugly.

I would have been so happy to get that as my first bass.
My first bass was some sort of Japanese thing that cost me
$50.
This was when a 4001 was @ $250(In New York....)
I could only dream about a Rick......

I hear ya, John. My first bass was $49 Conrad that looked a lot like a Gretch 6-string double cutout. Dark burgandy and double bound. The action was about 3/8" at the 12th fret - I tried adjusting the neck and the bridge but that was as good as it got.

Well, in January 2007 I had the pleasure  of coming across one of those. Though I couldn't possibly find anything right with it  both pickups on it certainly were hot and sounded great, despite being quite microphonic and reading a mere 4.0 K.

My first bass was a Kay, had that exact same bridge.

My very first bass was the SG shape Kay, bought very cheap from a junk shop. I was in my mid teens and was thrilled to have something to play on but it was absolutely horrible and totally uplayable and so I immediately saved up and bought a second hand CMI precision copy. I didn't get my 1975 4001 until I was about 23, but after what went before I really appreciated and cherished the Rickenbacker  .

My first bass was a Fender Telecaster bass borrowed from a friend. I had no idea what it was but I loved it. I still look for one now just because I liked the pickguard shape and the Tele neck.

That would make nice firewood.
Fireglo, one might say.
