Someone should snag this

Because if you don't, I will. The Buy it Now is less than I paid for one from Jason himself. I have it installed in one of my 4001's and it's thin reedy tone is perfect added to the hot toaster in the neck position. It's the most Rick sounding of my Ricks.

I'll give you all a day before I'm stupid and spend money I don't have to put it in a bass I haven't got.

Twist my arm
Now I just have to decide whether this goes in the '72 or the Shadow -- both of which have non-original bridge pickups. Hmm.

Oh, and thanks for the heads up!

Nice snag, Jake. I sat here thinking about them for about 5 minutes and decided not to. I just don't have the extra at the moment.

Great grab, Jake. We want a full report when it comes, and a sound clip if you can.

The fellow I sold my 73 BG to has one of these pickups installed. He said he had it for years and was waiting for just the RIGHT Ric to install it in and states it is NOTHING like the Vintage RI HS pickups.
He tells me it is PURE VINTAGE 60's RIC. It was combined with a 73 toaster as well.

As someone who played a 68 4001 as my only bass for 30 years I must state that I would never play a with the weak original style horseshoe pickups again ...
Gimme a 70s 8k ohm high gain or better yet a 4003 11k ohm high gain or a snarlly 15k ohm hb1 pickup ...
That is my opinion

Thanks guys! I'll definitely post some sound clips when I get this thing installed. Apparently this sat on eBay for a couple days at $400, and maybe for a while more at $325 ... the seller really should have put "rickenbacker" in the title.
My '72 came to me with a modern bridge pickup, as well as other repro parts (and plenty of mojo to boot). Since that's never going to be truly original anyway, I think this HS is going in there. I guess I'm going to have to hunt down a surround if I want to complete that look. Definitely old-school sound, probably more for recording.
I know it borders on heresy, but the Shadow is sounding really good so far with Barts in it. Maybe 86-era high gains would be this hot too, I wouldn't know, but I'm sure I'll try 'em at some point.

Barts are great pickups. They are well designed and well built. If they sound good to you, leave 'em in. There is noting magical about the original pickups unless you want to return it to stock condition as a collector's piece.

They match the color scheme pretty well, too.
