Thought I'd share my joy.
It took me a little while to get all the bits, but once I install black Dunlop straplocs this weekend, it will be 90% done.
All that will be left is checked binding and the truss rod cover. I can't yet bring myself to paint the truss rod cover, though.

Daniel, very nice. What's the year? Before painting the cover try Wanted and/or Selling and see if anyone might want to trade TRCs.

It's a 1978 4001, soon to have its own form-fitting case.

Very nice! Now you need to get a black surround for the neck PUP (usually not too hard to find) and vitage knobs

I can't find one! If you have any leads, let us know.

If you want a black pickup surround or tail, you can find someone to bead blast it and powder coat it. I had a few parts done in Chicago that turned out really well. Can't be told apart from the actual RIC black powder coating.
I'm not sure who did them though!

My brother was sending some parts from his motorcycle out and I asked him to throw my parts in the order. I can find out who did them, but I don't know off hand.

They turn up every now and again on the bay. You can also check with the usual suspects Mike Parks and Chris Clayton (Pick of the Ricks)

I intentionally left it as-is to have a little chrome left. I tried everything with and without black screws and, for me, I like just a little bit of contrast offered with the silver screws and neck pickup cover.
Jeff is right, though. I was planning on getting a second chrome surround and either anodizing or painting it. Not very difficult, especially if you own motorcycles and tend to do that kind of stuff often. The treble pickup cover is an example: I roughed it up with sandpaper and then painted it with urethane black gloss from a spray can. I would have preferred epoxy but could not find any. It got scratched a bit when adjusting the pickup back up (because the cover scrapes the surround by design), but those are almost impercetible. The top part is nice and durable.
I never was partial to the older style knobs. I like having the text on them. Maybe I just need the reminder for my enfeebled brain.
And yes, call Chris at Pick of the Ricks. He hooked me up with the black treble pickup surround and black tuning gears. He's the archetypal old motorcycle dealer of RIckenbackers.

if that is a white plexi, instead of a white w/raised black lettering trc, would you consider a trade for a 4004 cii black w/raised gold lettering trc? presuming they are the same size, which i think they would be.....
