yep i think over $3000 was a kinda steep for a discolored bass ...
perhaps you should refinish it in JetGlo

Not sure yet Jeff. I wanna see it. Might just keep it as is. The rest of the bass looks so nice. Even what I can see of the case looks pristine.

Let us know what you think after you've looked it over, Marc.

huh? when did this one re-surface?
i'm not so sure you overpaid....give it a year. or, at the rate prices are climbing; six months.

I look forward to hearing your detailed report on this one, Marc.
The price you paid today will seem insignificant in a year or two. Go find another 1972 4001 with all the goodies for sale for a lower price anywhere else today!

I'd say it's around ballpark for this type of bass.
Generally speaking a slightly later bass could be $1-1500 less, but an original, untouched 72 could fetch $1000 more on a Bay listing. This sits somewhere in the middle.
Still bargains out there, as Tony found a month or too back

, but it appears the pre 73's are still strongly in demand.
Where are we going to be a year from now?
Spreadsheet time please!

Andy, my spreadsheet is at the ready. What trend do you seek?

Not a bad price, sometimes C/B and full inlays will make you go crazy

and pay whatever it takes. I paid around $3500 for this one and didn't even flinch, mainly because of the C/B, but also because I needed a fireglo and a July (73) to fit into my "1973 transition collection". So realistically the right price is whatever it takes to get the job done- end of story.

Why does this bass have a ring around it?

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but it was discussed in the "For Sale" section. I can't wait to hear Marc's assessment.

That's a good question, Rikk. We were all trying to figure that out last time the bass was on Ebay. Looks like we'll all get an answer in a week or so!
Congrats, Marc. I know you've been looking for a complete '72 for a long time. Sometimes you gotta buck up to get what you want. If you did overpay, I'd say wasn't by too much.
Besides...I think I just paid a record high price for a 4002 and I haven't had any buyer's remorse yet!

Yeah, how about it! I meant to post something about that last time the bass was on Ebay.
I wonder if he's affilliated with
