Name your favorite one hit wonder from any era.

Here's mine: Mississippi Queen by Mountain.

And...............here's a clip of Leslie West playing it with Van Halen in 1995. Not bad for a so called one hit wonder.

My fave OHW is Hot Smoke and Sasafrass by Bubble Puppy. My buddy and former bandmate David Fore was their drummer. We got to hang out last week at the Austin Music Awards.

A one-hit-wonder down under - well, they're Kiwis but this was a H U G E hit down here...in 1981...

I believe the bass player is Bones Hillman - later of Midnight Oil fame - with a tasty/nasty aluminiuim neck Kramer

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to directly link to a youtube video please. I'm feeling like a luddite
Thanks Howard!!!!!!!!

Yeah..... I'm embarrassed to say that I have that one on CD, Evan. However, it's a compilation CD so I'm not totally ashamed!!

To post a Youtube link, copy the text after the 'v=' section in the address bar. Then when you're doing your post here, click on the 'youtube' option at the far right above the text entery box and paste the text.

And........ voila!!

Calling Mountain a one hit wonder is a bit unfair. Besides Mississippi Queen, they also made it into the charts in the U.S. with both Theme From an Imaginary Western and The Animal Trainer and the Toad. Granted, neither one made it very high in the charts, but they were there. Mountain was also known for other great songs like For Yasgur's Farm and Nantucket Sleighride.

When I think of one hit wonders, it brings to mind bands and singers that only had one song in the charts, and weren't known for any other songs by the general population. Here's some I came up with:

Green Eyed Lady - Sugarloaf
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Hold Your Head Up - Argent
Hocus Pocus - Focus
Signs - Five Man Electrical Band
