They were the first "metal" label founded by Brian Slagel in L.A. in 1981 and release the first Metal Massacre album in 1982.
The Metal Massacre albums along with the Best of Metal Blade compilations really helped shape my metal tastes throughout the early 80s.
As a metal record collector in the 80s and 90s, one of my goals was to have all of the Metal Blade records 1-80. I owned most of these at one time or another but a few eluded me. Several years ago I sold off most of my collection and have regretted it ever since. I needed money. But here's a list of 1-80. Most of these ended up on CD and I have them now, some never made it.

Wow, lots of heavy hitters. Best info I have as to why 64 and 65 were never released was that there were some contract disputes. When I worked as a distrubutor for Metal Blade years ago, I tried finding out what 2 LPs those were, but no one seemed to know, including Brian Slagel. The contract dispute explanation was the only thing they could provide. After Metal Massacre VII, Metal Blade started changing with the times getting more into thrash and death metal. The label is still going strong and that's great. I do mis those old days of discovery when you could take the chance of buying an album based on the label it was on. Not so much these days.
