In the mid-90s I saw a Mapleglo 4001 advertised by a dealer in the back of a UK magazine. It was described as having walnut wings, checkers, toaster etc. I rang about it (it was £795UK IIRC) and the guy said "oh, one weird thing, it's a short scale". I said I'd have it but they didn't take credit card at the time and I didn't have the cash. I've always wondered about that one!

I have a 4004 cii Blueboy.

Any thoughts on how many of that model in that color were made.
Last time I checked the registry there were two - mine and one in Australia.

Mine is greening - not sure how I feel about that . . . :?
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

If a common model with a strange color counts as rare, than I have a 4005 WAL for the rarity (contest?). (Only 1 in the register).

I did the same a few weeks ago John, and couldn't agree more. This thread is the definitive moment of this forum from a bass perspective. Essential reading for all.

I have a Rick of which there is only one in the register (and I'm not talking about that one  ) and the only other evidence I've seen of another is an old catalog page...

Yep! The ol' 26 stringer. But, I guess it really doesn't apply here since it's not a bass...

You could fix that embarrassing problem, you know? John Paul Jones has a bass steel.

Well, I am, in fact, collecting parts to make one!

Also, I have one of mine strung with heavy strings, tuned down an octave starting at the 'A' on a bass. It works pretty well with a 25" scale length and sounds wonderful! It's kind of a baritone steel I guess...

It sounds like that would a perfect candidate for an octave pedal.
