My 330-12: FINALLY Staying in tune!

Just goes to show what a great set of strings and the right luthier can do for a Rick 12. My 330-12 was a bear to keep in tune when I first got it, and for over a year afterwards. My usual luthier just couldn't get it right. It wouldn't hold a tuning for more than one or two songs with the D'Addario strings, so I called Chris at Pick Of The Ricks, and he recommended and sold me some Curt Mangum strings. Then, I took the guitar to Bill at Dave's Sound Repair in Whippany, NJ, who strung it and set it up.

Bingo! She stays in tune and plays great. My band mates are relieved and amazed. No more issues. I did take her back to my usual luthier (who's usually excellent, just not a Rick fan or expert) for a neck tweak last week, so everything is finally good. I can even do Pete Townshend windmills on "I Can't Explain" and she STILL holds her tuning.

I was beginning to give up hope and afraid I'd have to start using my Danelectro 12 all the time. What a relief. :D

Great to hear you've got that all sorted now Bob! :D
I haven't had any problems with my 330/12 since i bought it late last year! It's always in tune after i play it, and when i pull it from it's case, it's still perfect!
BTW, it has D'Addarios!

Same here, even though I've always hated D'Addarios on my six strings, they are the easiest to find and the previous owner of my guitar had them on there, so I thought 'what the heck'.
I had a little trouble with it after my first restringing because I flipped the g strings and the heavier one got a little sticky in the nut. (that sounded far ruder than I thought it would)
Other than my own stupidity, it's been fine.
