Rick 4000 on TV last night! (4/8/08)

Did anybody catch this?
My wife watches Dancing with the Stars.
Last night she paused it and came upstairs to tell me that Sheryl Crow was the musical guest and that Sheryl's bass player was playing a Rick. So I came down and we watched it together.
Sure enough, Bass Guy is playing a 70's 4000. Funky color. Could be Azureglo under yellow lights or a maybe a re-fin.
Looks like an Ampeg SVT with an 8X10 tipped on its side. IMO, Bass Guy needs to find the knob labeled "VOLUME" on his Ampeg and turn it clockwise.
Enjoy! Discuss!

Looks like Azureglo to me. And IMO he was plenty loud.

I thought he was loud enough too - I'm imagine the bass we heard was from a direct box

The first was loud enough, but the second could have come up some.
(IMO, the first song was almost too close to the record to be live

)

Nice sound, I thought. Not as clanky as I'd expected from a 4000.
My wife watches, too, and I surf RickResource while it's on. (OK, I watch it, but only for the articles.)

Depends how you set the tone on your 4000 and eq your amp. My 4000, even with light gauge Rotos, runs the gamut of sounds just by tweaking the tone control. I can even do a passable Jah Wobble.

My wife tries to get me to watch that dreck...
Even with a 4000 in the background I can't stand it...but that is a nice bass. Surprising to see it surface in that situation.

Maybe my TV at home is a little off. Last night it looked like it had a little more green in it than AZ.
And I agree that Bass Guy is loud enough in the first tune. I think I had just finished listening to the second tune when I posted this. I should have been more clear.
On the second tune I hear a beat, I hear vocals, and I hear a bunch of mush.

"Bass Guy" was Tim Smith. Played with The Producers, Jellyfish, Finn Brothers (amongst many others...)

Jellyfish: now there's a criminally underappreciated band. Although as far as I know, their original bass player was all about the Hofner viola bass. He worked with its quirks rather well.

I LOVE me some Jellyfish!
Tim was just the touring guy for the "Spilt Milk" tour. And from what I understand, the bass lines on the first studio record were actually recorded by Shane McDonald from Redd Kross, but there is so much lore surrounding that band - who really knows?!
