i'm thinking of selling my 06 4006 jg. as noted in other post, the paint is cracked on both sides of the tailpiece near the front about an inch long. some paint has chipped. ric said it was due to my using stainless steel strings.??. anyway i'm trying to find out what a fair asking price would be. thanks for the feed back.

Me Thinks you mean 4003 ... I'll give you $1000 for it and a smile ... uhhh that would be big smile ... (it's worth more than $1000 even with a chip or 2)
the strings weren't the problem ... the tailpiece is a faulty design that has been failing on ric basses for at least 35 years ... I can't believe they have let this flaw go on this long!
I fix mine with 2 extra screws ... this solution is highly effective but it is not visually pleasing to some ...

There have been rumors of a new bridge tailpiece design coming out of Ric ... but they seem to bring out new developements quite slowly ...

i just don't like the idea of punching holes in it or useing after market parts only after 2 years ? . its a real shame.

So RIC won't fix the paint under the warranty?
If not, have you thought about sending it to Dale or Paul for a touch up? I'm guessing JG has to be easy to match.
I've noticed that the thicker opaque finishes seem to chip easier than MG and FG.

My FG V63 chips if you look at it sideways!

It's such a shame, because otherwise it's beautiful.
It's hard to tell here because the picture is too dark, but the Hipshot tailpiece covered most of the chips around it.

You put a Hipshot on a V63?
That's like putting spinners on a '63 Corvette!

If Spinners would make '63 Vette tune up better, I'd do it!!

Ha!
I would rather have a original piece on there, but this factory one had the sustain and tone of a sponge. I wish they were like the old ones!

The bridge should just be a simple piece of engineering ... not a work of art to be put in a museum ... the bridge should do what it is designed to do.
But the current design becomes a 1" lever as it pulls up ... adding 2 extra screws reduces the length of the lever to almost 0 and therefore eliminates all pull up ...
