than the Jetglo 4001 C64 , on ebay one fg just sold for over 3000, i never see the jetglo 4001 c64 go for anywhere that high. is it more desirable ?

I'd say that this is just a statistical anomaly. Its a great bass, don't get me wrong...but this is the highest price I've ever seen for a used 4001C64.

There aren't very many C64's on ebay. If a bidder sees one that he/she really wants, then that bidder might shoot for the moon. In this case this bidder (and at least one other) really wanted a nice 4001C64FG.

I've seen a 4001V63JG sell for a crazy price a few years ago. It all just boils down to who's in the market and how much they want the item.

I wouldn't necessarily say that JG is worth any more or less than FG.

Personally I think they look fantastic, I wouldn't say no to one, and wouldn't feel bad that I got one with aesthetically displeasing wood under the aesthetically PLEASING jetglo finish

I think the bottom line is that FG is the classic Ric colour, and on a classic bass is always much more coveted.

JG is the opposite, even with a low production run, unless we're talking Shadow, Blackstar, or Phlemmy..

I dunno Andy, I'd agree that more people want a Fireglo C64/V63 than a JG C64/V63, but then you have the relative rarity of a JG. Some people want to be different.

Some people would much prefer a Jetglo, a Sea Green, a Turquoise, a White, or a Red V63 to a Fireglo. And there is a more limited supply of those colors. Well actually, all White ones are refins and I've never seen a Red one but you get my point.

My point is...the final selling price depends on the demand in the marketplace relative to the supply.

I think JG comes across as a standard Ric colour in most minds Jeff, and as such, it's not in the true COY/SE range.

In the C instance here, it is rare, but that doesn't seem to translate into perceived want and value, similarly, the V63's. Unless you really want a JG, they do seem to have the lowest resale.

Ebay is kind of a **** shoot. You never know which Rick-crazed bidder is in the market and what he/she might want at the time. I think it was a little over a year ago I saw a nice V63JG (a later one) sell for $2800. Then, a few months later I bought a nice '92 V63FG for $1800. Based on market conditions at that time, I'd be tempted to say that JG was a more valuable color than FG.

When two or more bidders in the market really want something, we see price spikes that might not necessarily reflect what we think the market value should be.

But really, both the 4001C64JG on ebay right now for $2399.00 and the 4001C64FG that just sold for a little over $3000 are both very desirable Rick basses. And on any other week, I would think $2399.00 would be on the high side for a used JG or FG example.

Its just that this time, more than one Rick-crazed bidder really wanted a 4001C64FG.

Thats my story any way, and I'm stickin' to it!
