Neck profile differences between 4000/4001/4003

Hello all,
I'm new in this forum. I find the world of Rickenbacker basses very interesting. I'm somehow liking the mid-70's 4000 most. If I have more than one pickup on my bass all I do is turn the knobs and never find a sound I like more than one rehearsal. Besides, one of my idols, Pete Trevavas plays one.
I've read that the neck profile on 4000 is different from 4001 and 4003. How much does it differ and in what way? Is the difference only in thickness of the neck or is there difference in width as well?

Welcome Marko,
There's a detailed thread here somewhere, and a PDF file with neck width's from the 60's to the present.
I now call upon those with information...

That reminds me - a link to a free XLS viewer from Microsoft - kind of hard to believe Bill Gates gives anything away for free, but businesses had a need for many to read spreadsheets without manipulating the data and not wanting to buy the whole Office product.

welcome, marko! the 4000 is an underated but really great bass. while it may lack some of the bassy smoothness of the neck pickup,it makes up for it with a more defined sound out of the bridge pickup, which you can certainly pump up the bass on your amp to compensate. also, with the unbound set-neck,this is one of the lightest basses rickenbacker has built. i take it you are searching for one-good luck-they do come up from time to time-the most recent examples i have seen on ebay have been listed as somewhat pricey......
