Does anyone own the Beatles Equipment guide?

Is it worth the money?

No, Alan, it doesn't ship until 2009. But it might be worth having when it comes out, IMO.

Upon further review, this is an old Nick Thiel project which likely may never get off the ground.

Alan, there's a long and tawdry tail about the proposed author, Nick Theil, which you can probably find if you do a search through the archives here. Long story short, the guy swindled several folks around here, getting money up front for special custom-made Ricks, befriending even RIC employees and the RIC CEO before he was found out. Don't bother pre-ordering the book as you will (probably) never see it.

There's a similar book which is already published and available on Amazon.com called Beatles gear by Andy Babiuk. It's very comprehensive, with excellent photos and stories accompanying each instrument. The bad news is that you're going to want every one of the Ricks, Hofners, Gretsches, etc. and your $20 investment in the book will end up costing you thousands....!

Exactly. I was just thinking "Isn't there already a book out there like that?" Babiuk's book is so comprehensive, I don't see how anybody else would even attempt to write another book on it. wild..

Thiel always had a lot to say about Babiuk and his book, most of it negative, and, quite frankly sounded like sour grapes to me.
Thiel's book, if it ever does get off the ground, already has some pretty heavyweight people waiting in line to collect money from him...

Andy's sister works for a good friend of mine, and I have spent many hours reading their copy which he signed for them.
I've never met him, but if he's anything like sis, he's a super guy.

" . . . tail . . . " Gosh, I should know better. Please insert "tale."

And while we're at it, insert "purported" for "proposed"...
