I am puzzled by the features on this model, esp. the dot neck:

I contacted the owner. The serial # VJ 27XX which would be October 1982 not "70's" as advertised.

Is this a "4000 + Neck p/p"? It looks kind of like a 4001V63. Or it could be a knockoff, look at the spacing of the tuning pegs on the headstock front. Odd.

I am not a bass nut, so maybe I am missing something. Any advice appreciated. I'm not going to buy it, just curious.

4001S or 4003S. I'm not sure if the 4001s would have the skunk stripe or not. If they didn't, I'd say 4001S. If they did, then it's a 4003S with a replacement pickguard.

My guess is an oddball 4003s. 7 screw tailpiece but no split pg like the one we saw a few weeks ago. perhaps a replacement guard? i've never seen a 4001 with the extra screws in the tail.

The guard looks bezeled so I think it's a replacement. The photos could be a LOT better and more detailed
