Remember the 69 4001JG(Re-Fin) at Good Guys that no body wanted?
Well here she be. Dale worked his magic and lookit her now!

Pre-Dale it was black. Through the worn spots you could see FG.
There were cat hairs in the top coat. It was just something that
you had to imagine the end result.
I think that for the time Good Guys had it, it was priced over the curve.
When I bought it, it was in the middle of the price rocket ride, and since
I never intended to keep it JG(shoot me but if it was real, I'd have done the same...)
the fact it was a refin didn't bug me.

I'll see if I can't find a before photo, but I think I burned them in a sacrifice...

John, I whole heartedly agree that a refin by Dale (or Paul) was the right choice for that one.

I forgot to add that Dale cut a guard as well.
It needed the guard to touch the PU surround.
Opens up the debate of which looks better....
I think it looks more "finished" to have the guard touch,
but maybe I'm biased....

Is that a reissue horsey?

The guard looks nice. I prefer a space, but its your bass. Now was the time to make it how you wanted it! How much of a space did it originally have?

I too am curious about the horsey. Did this bass originally come with one, or a hi gain?

Nope. From the look of it, the baseplate and shoes are 60s. The bobbin
was rewound at some point but is not "correct". Dale is going to fix me up
with a correct bobbin so it'll get better. The pickup sounds good as it sits tho...
I've got some shoes with better chrome, so I might use those.....

This bass is odd as it has a 69 SN, but the woodwork is more 67; the
neck has a swell under the nut, but not the "stepped" volute that appered
in 68 and stayed through 71.
And the truss rod channels go all the way to the treble PU rout. But that kind of happened
along side of ones that didn't so who knows?.....

I would venture that it left the factory with an "understring" treble PU.
