This relates to a similar topic here, but I'll drop it also. I'm in the process of doing a deal with one of our new Canada forumites. I usually dont ship out of the USA, but ,,,,, well I'll copy and paste the situation from the "Rickenbacker Basses" Thread. , here goes:

I got a PM from Matthew and it sounds like he's interested. He lives in Alberta Canada. I usually wont ship out of the continental USA, but he is willing to pay for UPS to package, insure, and ship. So I guess I'll give it a try.

I had a bad experience once with some electronics, and the package didnt arrive for like 3 months, and I swore I'd never go through that again.


I know alot of you guys ship out of the country all the time, can anyone give me some pointers to ensure a smooth, safe journey? (what to do, what not to do?)

I would really appreciate any advice for both parties inolved here.

I wouldn't think shipping to Canada would be as much of a pain as shipping across an ocean, but I don't know since I've never shipped to Canada. I've shipped to Europe and Australia using USPS and haven't had a problem. I think Tony has shipped to Canada.

Scott - the only difference in shipping to Canada is that you'll have to fill out a short customs form that details what you are shipping, the manufacturing country of origin and the declared value. The receiver will be responsible for the UPS brokerage fees, and any Canadian taxes. Remember that these taxes are based on the declared value of the shipment, (which must match the insured value), so its best not to overinflate the declared value, (if you're selling it for $1000, the declared value should be $1000). As I said in the other thread, I've never had any issues with shipping instruments to or from the states (except that time that UPS misplaced my 4003DCM for about a week ).

IF you claim the value OVER $2500.00, YOU have to provide your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER to the Govt.

Im selling it for $2000.00 so thats all I'm declaring and insuring for, so I should be good to go then. Thanks for the help.
