1969 4000 / 4001S Conversion Pix

Well after having problems getting my pictures dumped off the camera, I finally have some to share!
I got this 4000 a couple months ago with the plan of making it a 4001S, and she's just about done!
A huge thanks goes out to John Allgaier for the wonderful wiring job, Tony C for the vintage style knobs, and Tony at Pickguardian for the new guard.
Please be advised: the integrity of the original 4000 was not harmed in any way. No new holes or routes were required.
I used the short pole toaster from my '71 because the front route was pretty shallow. John used 250K pots for volume and 500K's for the toaster tone, and then a new Rick Push/Pull for the bridge pu.
Versatile in the tone department is an understatement!

Very nice Kevin! Now you are in the "S" club if you weren't already.
John posted a helpful image link for the wiring harness some time ago, which I made use of to add the .0047 uF capacitor (actually two of them) to my 1998 4003 after getting it from ebay a couple of years ago.

Thanks everyone! The best part of this bass is the neck. Wints said I would like it before it arrived and he was right, it's incredible!

Beautiful! Well done. Nice execution of your vision.
An RM 1999 with a hi-gain instead of horsey would be my ideal bass.
It does look like your old V63!
How is the skinny-magnet bridge pickup? Is this bass all about the toaster now?

Definitely Toaster tone heavy now! I use the bridge pu with the cap on more like adding an effect for bite and clank. With the cap disengaged, you can easily get away with that pu soloed, but it could use more oommpphh.
I'm thinking an early '70's large magnet hi-gain in the bridge position might be about perfect.

That looks fantastic Kev, and as you say, with the benefit of wider tone, and,the bass still is all original!
I always think these early "green" p/ups could do with a larger magnet, but that in an uncapped position should sound cool.
Best thing about the bass? Well, the neck yes, but just as good, no horseshoes in the damn way!
