FOUND My 'lost' Rick-O-Sound Box

I knew I had one somewhere, I remember buying a Ric-O-Sound box back in 1991 just after I got my 1990 360/12V64. I didn't really use it, and sort of misplaced it over the years. Well, the 'Curmudgeon' did such a great job of setting up my Rick that I've moved my Marshall 4 X 12 cabinet and Fender head to a new location, and guess what pops up behind the Marshall cab.....right, the Ric O Sound box. Still has the original RIC factory cables with it :)
I don't know if I'll use it any time in the future...."I've got blisters on my fingers" now from over doing it with my Rick, but at least I know it's there. Maybe I'll put it to use some day.

Cheers, and hope everyone has a great weekend..... :D

Thanks Paul, I don't know if I'll use it yet. I'm not gigging regularly these days, and there are so many things on my wish list ( like an AC-30 and other goodies ). But I had my Marshall cabinet stuffed into a clothes closet for the last 15 years and the last place I'd think of looking for the Ric O Sound box was there. So it was a pleasant surprize.
The 'Curmudgeon' certainly did a nice job with my V64 ! I can't seem to put it down for any length of time!
Hope your Sunday is going well.....
Cheers,
Gary

Congrats, Gary!

You do know that the v64 has dual mono outputs, right? :)

I've been using my ROS kit for going straight into the board with my 12 on my group's current recording. With some OD and compression added, it sounds amazing! :D :D :D

How do dual mono inputs enrich the sound? It doesn't make sense to me; If I understand how it works correctly (having never seen or heard one up close) one merely has the same mono signal that one can send to two different amps from the guitar, but as this would require the use of two cables simultaneously plugged in to the guitar at the same time, the setup doesn't seem very user friendly. I would order an ROS circuit from RIC, desolder the dual mono circuit from the guitar, and solder in the ROS circuit, and use the ROS kit. :D

The ROS kit is fun to mess with even at home; one guitar, ROS kit, two amps, sonic heaven. :D

Thanks for the response guys, but Doc Who, am I to understand that if I use the ROS output on my V64, I'm not getting true stereo? I might give it a try tonight with my old Fender amps and see what I can come up with in terms of sound. As I understand it, all ROS does is split the treble and bass, so it's not really true stereo, rather a function of separating the neck pick-up and bridge pick-up to feed to two different sources. Of course, I am a novice here and naive to the ROS output, but I want to thank you for your input, and would appreciate if you could elaborate and clarify a bit? Thanks for your input Dr. Who..... :)
Paul: Sounds like you're having fun with your ROS....Keep on rockin'
And to Admin, Peter McC, thanks for the encouragement. I am truly having fun on this forum!

Happy Days to All :)

Gary, I don't think that the ROS box will work right with the v64 ... however, I think that I remember a thread in which it was stated that some v64s were made with ROS instead of dual mono. Does your jack have ROS and Standard printed on it? The jack on my 370/12v64 has no writing on it (other than the serial number, naturally), nor does the jack on my 360 Carl Wilson (another dual mono output, IIRC).

With dual mono, of course, one only needs to run two separate standard instrument cables to two amps. It's great for A/B'ing two different amps!

Hi Gary,
You're right, my jack plate has no printing of ROS or Standard like the later 360/12s do. Just the two inputs and the serial number. Thanks for your reply ! :)

Great Gary, I might experiment with two cables, one to my small Vibroverb and one to my Concert head and see what I get. I suspect both output jacks are the same, and ROS wouldn't work with my V64. I've noticed that it doesn't really matter which jack out I use, I get the same sound. I used to have an 80s era 4001 bass with true ROS, and the ROS jack wouldn't work with only one cable out to the amp in the ROS jack, so it's fairly obvious the V64 doesn't have the capability to use the ROS box.

Hey, maybe I'll put it in 'For Sale' so someone can get some use out of it. :)

Cheers and thanks for all the info,

Gary ( modrock )

I know Rickygirl is looking for an ROS box. Give her a shout and you can be assured it will go to someone who will use and treasure it, and not just put it on Ebay in 6mos for a zillion dollars.
