"It Won't Be Wrong" question???

Hi. I originally worked out this tune in '66, and have always played the opening verse chord as an E minor. I have recently joined a "Jangle Rock" type band in the Fort Worth, TX area and was told that the chord should be an E major, instead of E minor.
Anybody know for sure??? What does Roger say??? Thanks for your help. Mike in Mansfield, TX (PS: This chord covers the words "Everytime I" in each verse.)

I just watched a few Byrds videos (none of which are worth posting - lip-synced) and one McGuinn solo video. McGuinn appears to be playing an E major, and Crosby, in the video where he's actually trying, also looks like he's playing an E.

Thanks, I feel that E major is correct too. Funny, when I was 18 it didn't matter much as we never performed the song! now that I'm an OF, it matters to be "correct". mike in Texas

E Major, without question!!
The only minor chord in the whole song is a Bm.
Make sure your "Crosby" plays the harmony line during the inro/breaks/outro.
Naked without it!
