Bruce Foxton - Bass Player Mag, June 2008

I searched in this topic and didn't see a mention of this. I wanted to note that the June 2008 "Bass Player" magazine has a short article on Bruce Foxton in "Bass Notes" on page 12.

He notes that he changed from the Ric 4001 to a Fender P bass at some point in the Jam. He liked the additional bottom end from the P bass. He initially liked the Ric due to "the look" and the narrow neck.

I sort of wish that he and another fellow (named Geddy) would try a more modern Ric 4003 if they haven't already. They've got a lot more low end now - at least when I compare my 1982 4001S to my 1998 4003.

I saw that too, David, and all I could think was too bad he didn't use the short wire cap bypass....

It's great, even after all these years, both Geddy and Bruce still kick major butt. Bruce Foxton has to be one of the most under rated bassplayers to ever come out of a power trio, or anything else for that matter.

I believe Bruce started (after playing Wellers Hofner violin bass and destroying it by sitting on it (which is why Weller slapped him in the face)) with an Ibanez Rickenbacker copy after he and Weller swapped rhythm guitar and bass. On some Jam pics you can read the Ibanez TRC. After that he had a lot of Rickies and Ps. If you see the Jam cids he also uses EB2s and so.
