A Dark Day in Vegas

Mmmmmm.................full width inlays!

What a surprise this was to arrive this afternoon. Saw the brown truck pull up once again and was about to make a crack to the driver about my wife buying more stuff. And out slides a very familiar long box. Oops! Better keep my comments to myself.

I say surprise because this was supposed to ship Monday from my favorite on-line retailer. Their system showed being shipped, but UPS still shows only having the billing info received and insisted as late as this morning they do not have the package. I called the retailer two days ago to see what the holdup was (quite politely, I might add...stuff can happen). I was told point blank that they had scanning problems in their warehouse and that the bass was, in fact, still at their warehouse. If I called back today and the same was the case, they would ship out another 2nd day at no charge. Fair enough, I thought.

So I called this morning and the charming person on the other end checked once again with UPS....no package. I was then told quite matter of factly that nothing could or would be done about this until next Wednesday as UPS has 6 business days to deliver this. I kindly reminded her of the conversation I had with another operator two days ago and that she had both my money and my bass.

Again, "there is nothing we can do until next Wednesday."

"Yes there is" I tell her. "You can kindly get your supervisor on the phone (at this point I hear nice hold music mid sentence and blah blah blah......hmmmm, I must be on hold."

A couple minutes later she returns to inform me that a second bass will be sent out right away this evening and I can return the first one, should it actually show up. Fast forward to the brown truck at my driveway in the last hour.

Ooops!!!!

I may be getting old, but I don't recall the sound being quite this punchy on any other Ricks I've owned. The finish, the inlays, the tone, the whole feel...save for needing a fifth string  it's absolutely perfect in every way.

Beautiful bass and little girl. My wife and I got a big smile from the photo. Enjoy both.

Thank you! That was her idea to jump in there. She's my budding musician and partner in crime.

Congrats and enjoy it, Bruce!
Your daughter has that "daddy, is this gonna be mine?" look in her expression! :D

I've been calmly and patiently waiting for the 4003 that I have on order, but with the group of guys that just got theirs with the full width inlays, I'm getting that little kid at Christmas anxiousness!

Very cute, Bruce, and the bass ain't bad either. I wonder if that's one of the UV finish basses - the gloss is shinier and the bubinga looks different. Just wondering....

BTW, have you called the retailer back yet? How's crow taste?

Crow??? Hey, if they hadn't told me flat out it was still sitting in the warehouse.....

Yeah, I called them and their system is down (again) so they cant tell if it's been shipped or not for a few more hours. What a mes.

So what's the best recipe for crow? Grilled with Jack Daniels sauce?

I've found breaded and fried with jalepenos goes down easier! Chase it with the Jack Daniels.

Well, the good news, if there is any, is that the second order wasn't even shipped this evening as promised. Good in that it didn't have to be sent back, bad in that it never left as promised in the first place. What a whacked out week!

All good in the end.

Let's hope the second bass hasn't been shipped. I can just see that little sweetheart of yours saying, "Daddy, you got me one too!" :D

Bruce congrats... but man you have problems brewing with your daughter.... she may want to play bass - yes that bass (full inlays and all)... and in a few years I think you may see a case of 'the hunter becoming the hunted....' "daddy, I want you to meet this boy...." YEECH!
