Rickresource Rickenbacker Forum

This is a question I really think will make people stop and think.

I think I have improved as a person since I joined RRF.

I used to let people know about my GLS (Guitar Lust Syndrome), and would constantly change my mind about what I wanted. This aggravated and probably angered many members, when I learned just keep my thoughts to myself, talk about Rickenbackers themselves, the artists that endorse 'em, and search the web like a madman until I find that dream Ric. And thanks to RRF, I've set a goal for what I want, and trust me, when it's here, you guys will know.

Not to mention, I learn something new about the Wonderful World of Rickenbackers each and every day, such as how Tom Petty got his "Super Bowl" RM1993, why McGuinn and Townshend don't use Rickenbackers as much as they used to, what amps work the best with Rics, what effects to use and not to use and so much that I just can't think of it!

I also know which online dealers to trust, and who not to trust.

So thanks to RRF for helping me improve in these ways, and I hope it gets better all the time! (Getting so much better all the time!)

I've learned quite a bit more about Rickenbackers.

I've been able to help out some fellow forum members with info that helped them get some of their gear sorted.

Other forum members have helped me out with info that helped me get some of my gear sorted.

I'd have to say yes.

Plus, you're a pretty awesome group when it comes to good info as well.

Jake, I love how your idea of "improving as a person" is wholly centered around guitars.

I've learned even more now than ever, that self-censoring and proof-reading are great things.

Patience is a virtue that I have, but only when not reading a thread about a 1997.

All-in-all, this has been a great place for me to increase my knowledge of music and share what I can with those that care to read my posts.

Do you feel you have improved as a person since joining RRF?: Sure.

Jake: That you have asked yourself this question to begin with is most impressive.
Not many people look in the mirror and that you have is surely an indication of growth.

At the end of the day, sharing views with others is perhaps the most rewarding and important aspect of life. The idea that I would one day converse with people all over the world never occured to me during my teenage years. Now I almost take it for granted.

As I have said before, the forest would be a very silent place if it was inhabited only by those birds that sang best. Our differences have so many times lead to our enrichment. Each interaction here is a learning experience in and of itself. That we get to talk about Rickenbackers is a bonus.

Learning through others, I like to think I have improved.

I've made several great friends through this forum, so I would hope that has helped me improve as a person!

Among lots of other things, the forum has helped me write better work emails. I've learned directly from here how easy it is to misinterpret someone's typed words when you can't hear the voice inflections.

I stumbled across RRF late last year and got instantly hooked!This forum is a great thing to be part of. The people who post here im slowly getting to know seem really genuine and helpful.After my first couple of posts i felt ready to breathe fresh air into my lungs and shine like the brightest star in the night sky.I felt invigorated and new,like a fresh blossom blowing in the summers breeze.After settling in after a couple of more posts i became the General in the army of love and now march toward the freedom of all things beautiful.After my recent 1K i now am the true lord of light and slide like ***** for the proverbial shovel!Do i feel like ive improved as a person? No i was better before all this cataclysm infected my life. Now im hooked like a Junkie ready for my next RRF hit.

Yes. Most recently I realized if I can be polite and supportive to an online community (as I am to my children and when I was coaching), I should carry that over to my everyday contacts (work).

Have i improved as a person in these almost five years? Well... some call it improvement, others call it degeneracy, and i'm still not sure whom to believe.
Was it because of the forum? Hardly so. Well, at least i hope my English has improved a bit due to this forum (from "horrible" to "bad", that is ). Of course, i'm not here for practicing English only and alone, but still.
Have i changed as a forum member? Definitely yes, and i'm not quite sure it was an improvement. Well, leaving the bad thoughts behind and on a more positive note, when i just joined, i had a belief that my opinion did matter. Now i don't think so. And that's very helpful, really — i mean, when one doesn't take oneself and one's own thoughts and opinions too seriously, one wouldn't be really hurt or offended once their opinions and thoughts aren't taken seriously or are simply ignored.
And of course, i've learned quite a bit about other people from different countries and of different nations — and that definitely thanks to the forum. Some of "taught-in-the-school" impressions changed dramatically, some stereotypes have been broken. That was most helpful. I didn't have much chance to learn that before — well, i did have a coupla mates from abroad, but they were way too much like Russians in many ways.
