Why can't fender make one? I'd buy a MIJ Duo-sonic with a nice yellowed neck in a second.

Get yourself a decal and a can of ReRanch spray-on tint and bring 'er into the backyard!

Cool stuff. I guess maybe Fender is also trying to make the Squier name count for something again.

I've got a few vintage Duos, and this one is a nice '59 replica. Fortunately, I've also got some vintage Fender decals...

Man, they even got the bridge correct! and the narrow waist. Now, if the neck was just a little yellower...

JB, there's also a Sonic Blue P-Bass...or was it the Jazz that got you excited?

I did see the Sonic Blue P-bass and immediately thought it would make a wonderful companion to my Sonic Blue Jazz. :D

Not sure though - I kinda like the '54-style Precision in blue as well!

I'm with you John - they're all very cool. I do worry about quality control though....

That's a great looking guitar...I understand the price point is also about $300, seems like where these "vintage vibe" pieces are all situated.

If that desert sand color is the same as the finish on the Baja Teles, it's a very nice color--slightly more tan than vintage blonde. I've generally found quality on Squiers, even the Affinity series guitars to be pretty darn good. I've got a Cherryburst Std Strat that's been perfect since day one..I used to have a BSB Tele that was also perfect--both of these are Chinese made (I know the Strat is). OTOH, I had some issues with my Std Tele's neck needing more than the normal amount of truss rod tweaking. I picked up a used MIM Std neck on the bay, had the nut cut, and it's perfect now.

Desert Sand was the color that all early Duos and Musicmasters came in, before the introduction of the maroon-burst in, I believe, '61. It's an opaque color, not like the wash of vintage blonde.

Fender painted them this color because they were not slab boards for cost reasons, and a wash finish would have revealed the glue seams. Why Desert Sand? Fender also knew that these would be student models, sold mostly be mom and pop music stores, and purchased by parents, so conservative was the philosophy. No Fiesta Red Do Sonic "race music" playing students for middle America back then!!!

Here is an example of a 1962 Duosonic, taken in 1965.

Most Squiers are junk, but if you shop carefully and play before you buy, you can find a decent one. I found a Squer Strat in a friend's basement that sounds amazing for some reason (bought it off him for $20!). At the very least, you can cheaply upgrade the components.

That's an example in Maroonburst, with the 22.5" scale, too. This is a better-proportioned guitar than the 24" scale ones, which look very stretched-out.

I have a 25.5" scale Duo that I modded for myself. It has HOT pickups and active electronics. But it looks like it went through a large funnel.
