Just curious, do you feel betrayed when people sell the instruments that you have painstakingly created or restored?
It would annoy the hell out of me.

So far, to my knowledge, only two of my restorations have changed hands: the AZ 365 OS that I rescued from ignominy (hacked for hummers!) for Bill Yantz, which Bill sold to "Elys Rand" about a year ago, and the Combo 400 that I restored for Len Hruszowy, which brought a good price on Ebay earlier this year, I believe.

I love restoring and refinishing, I love building acoustics. I don't feel in the least possessive, except of the instruments in my own collection. I am happy to do my job well, happy to see my customers satisfied, and if the instruments find an appreciative new owner, well, that's just fine, too.

Prediction: Not too many of these instruments will be resold. My customers like them too much!

Have you restored or refinished any instruments in your collection besides the Jazzbo and the 360 Capri?

I think your prediction is spot on.
I was just wondering because of the obvious effort and care that goes into the process.
Now that I think about it, it seems like a fair amount of effort comes from the customer in the decision making, so they would not part with it on a whim, imo.

Yes, Daniel. But I don't feel any different about the ones I've had a hand in, than I do about the original instruments I own. If I did not have to work (my hobby supports itself), I'd probably still be restoring Ricks and doing more on my own instruments than on others'.

Before I restored the Capri ( in mid-2006) and long before I built the Jazzbo (finished on the last day of 2007), I refinished and modded a 320 from 1981, into a replica of a '58 325 in Autumnglo, in May of 1005, and built the FG 730/12 Laramie that was my first attempt at an acoustic. I currently have several of my own instruments in the works: a pair of rare 425Ss, one in JG and one in FG, a 4001, and a 700C in MB for my wife.

My 730S will not be going on the market until I'm dead & buried; not a minute before. The only reason it will go on the market then is because I'm the only left-handed player in the family.

Re: sweatshops. No imported labo(u)r in my refins and restos. Every last sanding stroke and spray gun droplet is controlled by my hands, mind, and (dare I say it?) heart.
