Ok, so I mainly use Rotosound Flatwounds, I killed my strings and used a set of Fender Flats as a spare. But I'm curious as to what you guys think I should get as my next set of flats. I'm looking to get away from the usual Guitar Center stock (Rotosound, Fender, DR, and D'adario). What do you guys recommend? And one other thing, Why are Pyramids so pricey?

After having Pyramids I found that they are great strings and sound excellent but not that much better (if at all) than D'Addario Chromes so Chromes have been my flats of choice lately. LaBella Deep Talkin' Flats are also a nice string but have been backordered whenever I've ordered before so I usually had to wait to get 'em.....no big deal but something to consider if you're in a pinch.

I like my flats to have strong fundamental tone and retain brightness over time BTW. All of the above have met my needs. Other than that, I'm not too picky.

See I dont really like my flats to be all that bright. Which why I kind of hate the fenders that I have on there now. The rotosounds were cool, but they die a little too quickly and dont stay in tune. I've heard the Labellas are prettyg ood, but I've also heard about the back order issue with them.

I know you said no DR, but I've found the DR coated (extra life) strings to hold up pretty well over time. Plus they come in pretty colors (although I usually stick with the Black Beauties).

Next time I change strings on my Shadow, the pink set is going on.

That would probably be pretty cool to see, so make sure you take pics of that. I'm not a fan of coated roundwounds though. I'm going for a specific tone, just not sure what brand I should get to check out next

+1 on the coated DR's. I only use the pink ones on my Daisy Rock though.

I use Thomastik-infeld Set: JF344 long scale 34" medium.

I didn't know Thomastik made bass strings? My dad uses them on his Ovation and they sound really good.


Also if I didn't specify that I play bass and that I was asking about bass strings, sorry about that

I have used the Fender flats and love them . They are bright but have to break in then get real thud/funky . You can string and restring them several times to help speed up the break in process .

Very nice! I would totally rock one of these onstage if I had the right kind of band.

TI makes great bass strings. I have them on my two 4001s, my California Precision Special (Jazz Rounds), and on my Rick Turner RB4FL (Acousticores).

I have TI Jazz Flats on my 4003, a couple of Fenders, a couple of Stingrays. The tension is a lot lower than Fender, Roto, Ernie Ball or D'Addario flatwounds, but they have great tone and feel.
