SIR PAUL McCARTNEY ANNOUNCES FINAL TOUR

In 1966 The Beatles stopped touring. Forty years later Sir Paul McCartney is doing the same. This time McCartney is bowing out in style with an epic 100-date global tour that is sure to be a sell-out.

Sir Paul has chosen to end his touring career to spend more time with his four-year-old daughter Beatrice and to 'settle down' into semi-retirement.

The announcement has come as bitter-sweet news to many of McCartney's fans who are pleased for another chance to see him playing live but are upset that it may be for the last time. The farewell tour is expected to span over two years with dates in Australia, Canada, the UK and USA and could begin as soon as autumn 2008.

If his most recent concerts are anything to go by – such as his crowd-pleasing performance for the Liverpool ’08 celebrations last week – fans can expect some spectacular shows with surprising set lists.

Truly the passing of an era....

I sometimes wonder with all the older rockers heading off into the sunset, and with all the rap, hip/hop and grunge garbage on the airwaves now. Is the rock 'n roll era coming to an end? The only places I hear what I call real rock is on the classic rock and oldies stations. Yeah, some of the bands are still playing, but you don't hear anything new, because the radio stations won't play it. Perhaps I'm just getting old.

I hope Macca comes to NC. I'd love to see him one last time.

No, you're not too old ... but you'll never hear much good music on the regular radio stations. If you have an independent public radio station nearby, you'll hear it sometimes. But, believe me, it's tough to find. Luckily, I have a 19-year-old son who has decent taste in music. It's not all rock 'n' roll, but it is good, melodic and sometimes very inventive. Some of it's modern-day funk, some is borderline disco, some is Beatles influenced. I don't think Rock 'n' Roll will ever disappear, but it's up to old dudes -- I'm 59 -- to let the young 'uns know about it.

I'll be spitting chips if Macca doesn't come to Oz! So dissappointed when he withdrew his last effort for a world tour! I saw him last at the M.C.G back in 1993! Awesome! I'll be there with bells on this time, if he comes here!

There's actually a resurgence in popularity of classic rock bands these days among young people...witness all the young'uns like me on this forum. It's kind of a backlash against the blandness of much today's rock music.

yes, Aussie forumites may recall John Farnhams "Farewell tours". His Farewell tour, his "Last time" tour", his farewell acoustic tour,his "Farnham and friends" farewell tour, etc etc etc! It went on for years!

Looking for new and good music on the radio is not a good way to go. I don't know how it is where you are, but where I am my choices are a couple dozen country stations, 3 or 4 "classic rock" stations, a few jesus freaquencies, and NPR. With NPR you get either jazz or classical with a good alternative show 1 night a week. You've got to search out the good stuff. Read good magazines, download stuff to try it out, and then order it, because most record stores aren't going to stock a lot of good stuff. It's a lot more work than it used to be. There are tons of great bands making music today. If you want some recommendations, send me a message and I'll send you a list of stuff to check out.

Still no word of this on http://www.paulmccartney.com - And the news section was updated today.

And according to http://www.maccareport.com, in a June 10th interview for the Kiev concert, Paul was asked, "First Liverpool, now Kiev, there are plenty of rumours about a tour, any truth in the rumours?"
Paul: "A tour is being talked about but there is no definite news at the moment."

On one of the Beatles radio programs this morning, it was mentioned that Paul was working on a new CD and that there would be a tour to support its release. No mention that it would be the last tour.
