I was following this auction for a '69 "Mosrite Ventures":

This is a Japanese Mos-fake. The neck plate is wrong, the original tuners were wrong (but have been replaced) and even the seller acknowledges that it was built in the "famous" Firstman factory (in Japan), not in the Mosrite factory in sunny California. The fact that the Mosrite-Ventures endorsement deal ended before '69 is also a worry, as this means the Ventures logo is an aftermarket add-on. Still, some sap paid up to authentic Mosrite level. What is the world coming to?

Caveat Emperor...

This is why I usually defend high asking prices when someone posts how offensive or ridiculous the ad might be. Often, there's a buyer out there who might be willing to bite. If the seller is honest, not purposely deceptive, etc., it's all good.

Unfortunately, these buyers never seem to be around when I try and sell something!!

yeah, that is pathetic. It's just plain wrong to detail it as if it's the real deal, and then add....in the last paragraph at the bottom....that it might be fake.

Cool guitar, historic as an early Jap. copy, but not worth the price that it ended as. I suspect some poor sod didnt' read well enough and will now pay for it.


btw...I just picked up my first real Mosrite (after many copies), 1966 Ventures II/V model (didn't pay as much as noted here):
