WHERE'S THE CURMUDGE BEEN?

For those of you who've missed my absence from these pages the last few days, an explanation:
28 days working straight to get some projects out, coupled with a house move and record high temperatures, have all produced a Triple Witching of truly massive proportions.
Our "new" house has never had cable internet or cable TV (originally built and occupied by a couple who seldom watched TV and never owned a computer), so they are having to run cable about a half-mile to service us. My only access right now is at my office, which I have been absent from for the last week due to the house move and a relapse of the cold virus I had in March.
Today, Saturday, I'm back at it with good energy, and I think that you'd all rather see me working on your projects rather than cracking away at the many emails, so I'm scanning for urgent ones to dispatch and then letting the rest slide for awhile. Anything urgent, please send to my email in my profile and I'll get to you sooner.

Paul,
Would you please get cracking on those projects?!!! Sister Mary Francis! I've had emails upon emails of people wanting me to call you and see what is up!
Seriously, new house? Cool. Wish I were in California.
Hope you are doing well... Even if you are curmudginasty.
JKC

Were you absent? I am still catching up on my reading so I did not notice that you were not writing and posting faster than I can read.
Congrats on the new house again.

Congrats on the new abode, Paul. I'm sure you like the new digs, but surely didn't relish the 'moving' part. I saw where it was in the 90's in the Bay area. No offense, but over the past two weeks to have been 'just' in the 90's here would have seemed like the onset of Fall.

Not a day goes by, that I don't hear from one customer or other wanting to know where they are on the list...this notice was meant as a blanket notice for anyone getting antsy.
Yes, it has been in the '90s, and the new house has lots of glass and like most North Bay houses of its vintage has no A/C. So it has been a bit thermally extreme.
I have a tub-style planter about 18" in diameter and 24" high, made of polished stainless steel with a plywood bottom. I put it on the corner of the deck, with neither plant nor pot inside, and returned home from a three-hour errand at 2 pm last Wednesday, to find it on fire. The polished concave inner side had focused the sun into a small spot on the plywood bottom, which was in flames. Another ten minutes and the creosoted deck would have caught...it would not have been fun to return home to fire engines.
That's bright, hot sun.

I'm sure you notice my extreme patience.

No A/C and in the 90's?? Mama. Conditions not fit for man nor beast...or geetars.

Hopefully A/C is on your list of urgent upgrades to the new abode Paul? Along with cable and internet of course. I could not survive without A/C in this region at the height of summer. When it reaches 42 degrees Celcius it is just a little too warm to rely on the prevailing winds and summer breezes to cool the house down.

NUTS! Good accidental timing on your part. Glad everything (almost) is okay. Welcome back to the forum!
Yeah, no A/C here in Long Beach either; homes likewise have lots of glass and an ocean breeze go benefit from...usually! At least it's only 87 today, with a nice breeze blowing. I'm even wearing long pants

Not really "back" 100% yet...too many details pulling in too many directions right now. But I'll check in at least daily.
This kind of weather is very unusual for us. Those living here or who once lived here can attest. Weather is usually hit-or-miss (Monday it was 45° F in the city, with 20 mph winds), and we only suffer from 90°+, maybe 10 days a year. My old cottage had AC in our bedroom, which was fine.
Anyway, I'm in the shop, alone, and the AC works here, so I'm comfortably easing this virus out of my system, hopefully for good. Juliana graduated from 5th Grade on Wed, and she's at Raging Waters with friends today.

Take your time Paul, I have a lot of basses to keep me occupied when I get back home in a couple of weeks.

That explains a few things, Aitch. There's cooked and then there's,

Weird Bay Area microclimates: Today will set an all-time record high of 97° F... Tomorrow will be nearly 20° cooler, and cooler yet for the rest of the week. July is our hottest month, with 85°F averages. I predict comfort. We have a large sunny deck and shady patio...always somewhere to sit and enjoy a smoke and a beeyah, Aitch.
