Wide Mouth Mason

OK so the last Canadian band I wrote about was severely trashed and dismissed by regular readers of this section and people who obviously stop by for a read now and then and never seem to say much. I had to check to make sure that I had not written about that other Canadian band fro Calgary called The Stampeders by accident. We all loved to hate them.
It was great fun actually. Perhaps I should do a thread on Triumph or Streetheart the forerunner to Loverboy? Hmmm. I know Paul Dean quite well actually. Nevermind that was just a random thought.
So let me tell you about another great Canadian band that I have also had the pleasure of seeing live under much the same circumstances. I just seem to stumble into these bands before they become big. Don't ask me why, because I don't make a habit of frequenting bars.
Wide Mouth Mason is a band from Saskatchewan. I seem to have some sort of affinity for prairie bands going on, I suddenly realise.
It must have all started with The Guess Who, as they were from Winnipeg.
Back to the topic on hand. What impressed me about these fellows is that have a big sound. Now those of us who have spent years trying to get a big sound from a small band will appreciate this nuance. These guys were not ear splitting loud but they filled the room with separation. I could hear everything in the mix and they were damn good.
Their first album "The Nazarene" went gold in Canada.
Take a listen to them for yourselves. As we used to say in the 60's "open your minds". They are another band that crosses genres at will and have issued CD's that are quite bluesy with jazz over tones and then the next thing you know you are listening to pop rock.
Hey threaten to ban me to Siberia for poor taste if you must.............I like 'em.
