Although its a beater and the re-fin was less than high quality, I dig this color.
I've had an idea for a couple years now to re-fin a 4003S in a very similar color.
But I'd go with white plastic. My wife had a road bike made for her in a similar color and I can't get over how much I like it. Its like an blue-greenish aqua that's more blue from some angles and more green from others.

Probably a good deal for somebody looking to jump into the Ric pool on the cheap.

I think it would better with white plastic.

Kinda looks like the old Silver finish after turning green.

The refinish color is actually not bad. It'd be interesting to see it with white guard & trim, too. That would probably be nice.
Do most road-weary Ricks have screws as rusty as this one? Holy cow, maybe it's ocean air or something (I'm in the cornfields of the Midwest and have a '94 with lots of hours logged that's nowhere near that bad), but I've not seen rusty hardware that bad on a Rick before.
Well, like the ad says, it's a 'player' and not a 'collector'.

I think the toaster is off a Rickenfaker, the tuners aren't RIC, the binding has been painted over, and the fretboard has been goofed up with too many coats of (probably different) finish. The bass definitely has some issues...but I like the color! I'd like it even more if it hadn't yellowed.

Hell no, folks: that's not a refin!
That's the rarely-seen and exceedingly collectible
RadiumGlo. Admittedly, it's not to everyone's taste: the lead-lined hardcase is a trifle heavy, and prolonged exposure to the instrument itself will ultimately prove fatal, but this is one bass you'll always be able to find in the dark...

I think I should buy this one:

Swap hardware to chrome, swap plastic to white, refinish in Radiumglo and leave the fretboard maple with a satin finish.
Actually, the color I'm thinking of has just a little less green in it.

WTF??? All original? What is going on with the fretboard on that thing?

You've never seen one of those, Ken? It was a limited production special color thing that RIC did in the late 80's: S bodies, black hardware and plastic, maple fretboard finished the same color as the body. Microdot position markers on the fretboard. There were three similar but differently colored models...The "Blackstar" was Jetglo, the "Redneck" was Red, and the "Tuxedo" was White.
Lotsa people like 'em. Sweet necks, sweet tone, comfy bodies.

Is this one a factory color? Looks to be teal.
