Question about playing the 12 string as a six string.

Okay maybe that didn't make any sense but...I have a 330 6 string left handed and a 360 12 string left handed.
I just sold my back up 6 string..a tele I never really got used to but I used it as a back up on stage if I ever broke a string...the six string I'm getting as a back up will not be available for a month or so...and I'm gigging next Friday.
What problems,if any, will I encounter if I clip the octave string off of my 12 string?

Jeff: Welcome to the RickResource Forum.
Are you going to remove all the octave strings from your 12, using it as a six?
If you do that you will be taking tension off the neck of your 12 string and you may find that you require a truss-rod adjustment only to need to make another as soon as you get your new 6 string.
I would not go to the trouble . Replacing a string, should it happen to break is far easier and will give you a "break" too. I have used a 12 string as a backup before and few in the audience care what you are playing. Let the show go on.

JUST the info I was looking for!
I'll just take it easy on the 6 string for one more gig...and if I break a string, the rest of the set will have a little more jangle.
