I'm watching this auction in disbelief. I would have never guessed that a Mapleglo slant-fret model would fetch a price this high and the auction still has just under a day to go. I wonder where the final price will end up?

The slant-fret concept is kinda kooky and mildy interesting. It just shows that, despite the economic downturn, the right instrument can still command a high price.

Haven't I seen that guitar before? I think it's been for sale for a while. Maybe it just now pushed past reserve.

Excellent condition '60s 360s seem to be edging up toward $5000 as well. I guess Rick collectors are so savvy that they have avoided the pain of the recession.

Darren: I saw the guitar when I was with Dave at the Philly show.....IIRC it had a price tag on it there of around $6K, maybe more. A nice example no doubt.

Yeah, tell me about it. I've just outlayed for a '65 Strat a month or two ago However, when you consider that less than a year ago I bought a '59 335 MG Capri, from a vintage guitar dealer, for less than the price that the 360 SF is currently at, it's crazy!

But, a mint '03 380L PZ went yesterday under $2K. I'm surprised a rarely seen, discontinued, wide necked, piezo equipped model would go so LOW! It's definitely hit or miss sometimes.

This guy says he "turned down $6K" for it awhile back, thereby giving a rather open hint of the price he'd like to get. That's in keeping with the show price, too,so we know his range.

But it seems like it won't go much higher. And I do agree--how would a bunch of strangers all manage to bid it up to near his wishing price? Pretty odd. Then he posts a not-too-subtle note about the number of watchers and the statement that he's had several offers, none of which have been high enough.

I smell manipulation. Sweet guitar, though.

PW, it's a matter of affordability! I'd collect '59 Gibson Les Paul Standards if they weren't half a million bucks each!

I recently picked up a sunburst '65 Fender Strat for a reasonable price, so I guess the answer is yes. I also have a '63 Strat; four '60s P basses and a '68 Telecaster bass.

I hate seeing auctions with the font that large, it just makes me not want to bother reading it.

The seller pulled the auction. Either some one made him an offer over 6K (I doubt it) or since he didn't have a reserve price on it maybe he realized no one was going to bid over 6K and he didn't want to sell it for less than 6K. In either case -- great guitar too much money.

it is neal's guitars they have history of putting up auctions with $.99 and pulling the plug when they don't like the result that is coming.

I actually love the slant frets. I am mostly a bass player and I have small hands. The slant on my 481 does help me reach some chord positions that I have difficulty with on all of my "normal" guitars.

We got one used in a store I worked at in the mid 90s, and it made me seasick to look at it. Just didn't seem right to me, but I am in no way knocking them for those of you that like them. Few companies dare to try such drastic changes.
