United Parcel Fraudulent E-mail Warning

As a person who works in IT security, I hate (hate) all the bogus virus/worm warning messages that float around the Internet every day. (“Your computer will explode!”)
But since a lot of us here tend to receive package shipments every once in a while (ahem) I though I’d pass the following along:

I received one of these in my mailbox last week. I'm used to receiving **** like this, so I forwarded it to
[email protected], then deleted it. As far as fraudulent emails go, this one was pretty lame. No copied logo or anything - Just a text message and an infected attachment.

Yep, and despite how lame it was, some of the users here at work got infected by it, even though there were two email warnings and one in person warning to everyone who uses a computer. And guess who got to fix it....me. It wasn't an easy one to fix either. Best to stay away from it.

Mark......Thanks for the heads up, brah. The little brown truck is delivering a couple of small packages from separate vendors to me this week. This is timely. Best regards.....Goofyfoot.

I swear - I believe some people try to get a virus on their computer just to liven things up!

Dalia's workplace got hit by this one last week. Took a couple of days for the IT consultant to get things up and running again.
My brand-new VAIO laptop (my first purchased Win machine, running VISTA and SOA security, picked up a virus last Monday that wiped out the hard drive to the extent that a RESTORE disc won't work, SONY is back-ordered on new drives, and I'm pretty determined that my next laptop will be a Mac.

Gosh Paul, I'm sorry to hear that. Yikes. That's terrible. The A/V software obviously didn't catch it?
And I'm sure I don't have to tell you (and everyone) do periodic backups!

Thanks Mark.
That's a good heads up.
Actually, UPS finally delivered my ATA case back to me after it went astray today. They do know how to test one's patience at times.

Anti-virus programs can be disabled by user stupidity, and often are.

Definitely, PW, you'd do well scoring a MacBook or MB Pro. Sounds like you were a MacFreak before you switched to the VAIO. I've been using a Mac laptop for many years. I mean, they're close to being bullet-proof when it comes to viruses, don't you think? Ciao for now......Goofyfoot.
