Unfortunately he doesn't know the serial number...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
owned by James of the Black Irish.

I JUST GOT MY RED RICKENBACKER STOLEN FROM MY CAR IN THE GREENBELT PARKING LOT OFF OF 360 AND MOPAC. Its a red (cherry burst) 330 and it was passed down from my father to me for graduating high school. I have the damn thing tattooed on my arm.

here's a picture of it. It has tape keeping the strap lock from falling, because the nut is too small...I don't know at all what to ask, but any help that can be given. please repost this this so I can find it. I never have seen a person playing this guitar in Austin unless I loaned it to them.

you may call me with any info also..512-294-1538

man, that sounds like a nightmare. I hope he can recover it. It's going to be tough to recover because a FG330 is about the most common Ric there is, and without a serial number or distinct customization/wear it's going to be difficult to find. Like stated before- craigslist, ebay etc are your best friends here. pawn shops and guitar stores usually only look out if there is a Serial number, so this is a reminder people:

WRITE YOUR SERIAL NUMBERS DOWN!

In hundreds and hundreds of club gigs, I've never had something stolen before. I guard it all like crazy, but it still concerns me sometimes.

What a bummer. :(

Cheers,
-COllin

We have something similar in the register, you can mark your instrument as stolen and then it will display in the stolen list.

Very very sad story. I think the lesson learned here (for everybody) is to NEVER leave a guitar in the car :(

Or in a locked trailer of equipment if you're travelling. Your guitars should go inside with you every night!

This is a sad story, especially because I'm certain it has some sentimental value that is beyond mere money. I hope that guitar is recovered someday.

[Note to self: Be damn sure you record the serial no. of your new Rick when it arrives & keep that record in a safe place. And for heaven's sake take the other advice above!]

Yup, it happened more than once that I had a dinner with my wife or friends right after a rehearsal. I simply took the bass with me to the restaurant...
And mind you - in Israel it's not as simple as in other places around the globe, every restaurant is obliged by law to have an armed guard at the entrance to search in your bags...

FWIW, Joe got his Ric back. Austin PD has a unit specifically set up to investigate this stuff and they got the guitar and the guy who stole it apparently.

Congratulations! I hope it is not any worse for wear. Jot down that serial number! Another chapter has been written in history about that 330.

I was getting depressed reading this and now I hear he's got his guitar back. I'm glad it worked out for him.
