I'd like to officially open this link for those of us who are being denied the joy of RAS because of the backlog. It's not easy to be waiting for a new RIC for months, and even years, on end, and I believe that some of us may benefit mentally by being given the opportunity to vent. Remember, the waiting is the hardest part, and many of us can share in your pain and hopefully offer support. Time's yours...

Does this include those who are still saving?

Oh I am so in this group! I ordered a 360/12 string, stock hi-gains, fireglo finish (about as typical a Rickenbacker as you're going to find) from Jim Rhoads in May, 2007. Hold on to your seats, alll you guys that buy used guitars, here's the story.

See, I knew it was going to take a long time to save up the cash for this guitar. So I think to myself, "I'll place the order now and use the backlog time to save up the balance." Good strategy, right? Little did I realize that the water heater would shoot craps just as I had everything saved up. So there goes the first guitar fund. The water heater wasn't so expensive, the installation was.

Now, a year later I'm finally back in the money, and just waiting for The Call. I did zap Mr. Rhoads an email asking if he'd heard anything from RIC. Of course he hadn't. But he said "You're No. 2 on my waiting list for that particular model guitar." HOORAY!

This time, ain't nothin' gonna git in my way! I console myself by listening to lots of Byrds, Starry Eyed & Laughing, the Jayhawks, and the Beatles.

It's almost like being homesick...sort of...or maybe like that first crush you had on that cheerleader when you were in high school...feels so far away, so unattainable. "Maybe someday," you say to yourself, "she'll be mine."

957 days and counting, waiting for the Blueburst Cheyenne II I had ordered on December 15, 2005. Strangely, when I pay the remaining balance on it, it will be one of the least expensive Rick basses I've bought in two years (assuming my retailer will stay with the quoted discount price effective when ordered). Still don't know what RIC is doing on the Cheyenne/Laredo front. There was a handful shipped out in May, and I thought sure mine would be in there. I assumed they would "catch up" on 4004 orders with a big batch, but nope. Now the factory hints at another batch "this fall." By then, I'll be well over 1,000 days in waiting. I know the factory keeps busy making their "bread & butter" guitars and basses (330, 360, 4003), but I can guess the 4004 order pile must be miniscule by comparison if this delay is any indication.
Too bad. It's not that I'm hurtin' for another instrument. I've got 14 Rick basses right now. Three of them were bought new, two from North Coast, one from Wade's (both Milwaukee). Bought a few on eBay, but seven of the ones I have now were bought from Forumites. All four of the ones I've sold went to Forumites as well. At least we have each other for consolation!

Oh, just wait. I'm sure there are people who have been waiting longer, especially for something like a COY mandolin.

Best of luck to all those in waiting. I can honestly say that I've never waited for one, so I guess I'm lucky. I suppose that one of these days though, that'll change now that I'm on salary.

A spontaneous purchase is absolutely the best way to cure RAS, but sometimes a special order seems the way to go. Examples: I spontaneously purchased a new 660/12 BBR at POTR in January, which had been on order since 2005. It arrived as store stock, no one had yet placed a deposit, and BINGO! it was mine. A brand-new 'rare" guitar just fell into my lap!
On the other hand.... I placed an order with a large internet dealer (AMS) back in February for a 360/6FG at the OLD PRICE, which had an expected delivery date of 6/23. It still hasn't made an appearance, despite the rather large amount of 360FG's (a hugely popular model/color) that have been shipped lately. POTR has had 4 of them come (and go!) in the last month.
Hopefully it will arrive soon, and the wait (and price) will have been worth it. And I've only been waiting for 6 months...

November 27, 2005 for my Cii. It's almost a joke now, really, especially after the "production run" in May. I have other things going on right now so I don't think I'll get to enjoy it much if it does come in this year. Oh well, I couldn't afford one at today's prices, though, so it's good I ordered it when I did.

Nuts. I've only bought two Ricks new and I never had to wait anything approaching that length of time. Then again, the last time I bought a Rick new was a LONG time ago.

A great way to ease one's anticipation and exacerbate it at the same time is to attend So Cal Con `08 and check out all of the Ricks there.
