How do you guys make youtube videos? Webcam or video camera? Any particular software you use?

I use the isight in my Macbook Pro with Quicktime to record the video. I record the audio with Logic Pro using a Presonus Firepod.

I've participated in the making of a couple joke YouTube videos with a few friends. The videos were first recorded on my friends video camera. His camera isn't directly Mac compatible, so he would then take it to his house and convert the movie files to M4v. I would then, in turn, bring the files onto our iMac with his hard drive and edit them with iMovie, export that, and bring it into GarageBand, where sound effects could be added. Then I could export the movie to iTunes, where it can be stored and brought onto the desktop for emailing and uploading. Confusing enough?

I made a video by myself a few days ago, again nothing serious, using the iSight on the Mac, and running through iMovie only.

Check out the section here titled "it's only rock and roll, but I like it", then go to the thread "name that tune." There are very simple, inexpensive ways to do this, and a step by step instruction from a few forumites. Instead of uploading to photobucket, go to youtube. It's easy enough to use your webcam and the software it came with to do this. You can get a decent webcam for about 20 bucks.

If you're looking for higher quality, you'll need to spend a lot more money.You can always plug an amp modeler or something in to your mic input on your computer for better fidelity.

For any video I have (from DVD, video cam, etc.), I use the Nero CD/DVD software I got with my CD/DVD burner. It works very well.

As hokey as it is and for what it's worth ... I use my wife's digital camera, a Kodak, with built in video cam. After "the take" I run them through Sony Vegas Movie Studio software..... not that they are good....

I do all of my You Tube videos the simple way. I plug in the guitar, turn on the sony digital camcorder, hit record with a remote, then play. After I've shot the video, I take the mini DVD disc, put it in my laptop computer and determine the starting and ending points. Next I usually run it through Windows Media Encoder to convert it to the correct format and to compress it to a file size that is under 100MB, and save the compressed video to my computer. Lastly, I import the video into Windows Movie Maker program, add titles, etc. with this program. I have also used Sony Movie Studio + DVD but I normally just use the simple Windows programs. At this point you are ready to upload your video to You Tube, etc. Now you can sit back and watch it take a life of its own. -BC

Are you using a Mac?
From my mini-DV camera I import to my Mac into iMovie, edit, then I use VisualHub for any format conversion. For stills I grab snapshots from my iSight camera in QuickTime Pro.

I use my Dell laptop to do the You Tube stuff on. I don't own a Mac. -BC
