Roy: A nice visit to Liverpool you lucky man. Please tell us some more details. I am especially interested in hearing about the atmosphere at the Grapes and across the City especially during the Capital of Cultures 2008.

It was lunchtime at The Grapes and I did not detect any special atmosphere, i or 2 photos of a reminder of the past but could just have been another pub to me.

Been to Liverpool before but never done the ferry on the Mersey, instead of the normal 10 minute crossing to Birkenhead, opted for a 50 minute river cruise, enjoyed it as a good commentary (taped) was given through out the cruise, just as cruise ends and ferry comes in to moor, Ferry Cross The Mersey is played which give a good atmosphere, tried to capture as a video clip on my camera, but sod's law, 10 seconds in the dreaded Low Battery appeared and camera cut out.

I did enjoy my visit to a exhibition at Liver pool Museum(free) called The Beat Goes On, Liverpool music through the decades, was going to take some photos, even tough it stated no cameras, but my wife protested, she did not want to be shown up as we say here and so to keep the peace didn't.

My expectations were perhaps too much as I expected more and would have liked more time but regretfully my wife does not really share my passion for Merseybeat.

Bought a re-print of Merseybeat mag from August 64 would have bought more had I been on my own, but they were not cheap.

Found a copy with a good full page article on Searchers though, so could not resist.

Can't say I really noticed anything different in the Town or anything which made one aware it is the European Capital of Culture, lot of building work going on in the docks area.

When one looked at the shore, from the Ferry, I could not help thinking that some of today's modern pieces of architecture seemed rather incongruous.

Roy: Thanks for these comments. I always marvel at how four lads "from the North" shook the world. The continues to be something magical about this port city.

Liverpool skyline as seen from Ferry, the modern architecture somehow seems to detract.

Names of groups if photo enlarged can be seen and as menioned in Peter and Shirley's excellent article, none that you can clearly make out made a dent nationally, most never got a recording contract.

Interesting that Peter's article refers to the African- American odyssey, perhaps reflected here in some of the items offered for sale.
