I have received a number of e-mails and pm's in my short time here requesting help with various computer recording issues. I thought a thread where we listed what we used would helpful for those who were shopping and also those who might need assistance and be able to know who to ask (for example - I got a couple of requests from MAC owners that I could not help). My specs below.
DAW, Interface and OS
Sonar 7 Producer Edition
Sonar Home Edition 6XL
M-Audio Firewire Solo
Presonus Bluetube
Windows XP SP2
Plug-ins
IK Multimedia Amplitube 2
IK Multimedia AmpegSVX
IK Multimedia SampleTank 2.5
IK Multimedia CSR
IK Multimedia T-Racks
Toontrack EZDrummer
Toontrack Superior 2.0
Garritan Personal Orchestra
Sonitus FX
Celemony Melodyne

I'll be paying close attention, my home recording setup needs a serious kick in the *** (Roland VS-2480 at the moment). All I've been hearing is "Logic, Logic, Logic".

If I were a PC-er, it would be Sonar hands-down. But I have the new Logic Studio release and I'm in heaven

Mac OS X 10.5.4
5 GB RAM
1 TB HDD storage
23" cinema display
Firewire 1418
Alesis QS8.2
ProTools M-Powered 7.4.2
A bunch of NI stuff including Absynth 4, Guitar Rig 2 and 3, FM8, B4
Celemony Melodyne 1.1.whatever <-- get this if you don't have it
Xpand!
EZ Drummer <-- get this if you don't have it
Izotope Ozone <-- you should probably get this, too, since it is a poor man's mastering assistant and will make your stuff sound like the shizzle. Assuming 1) you want that and 2) people still say that
Favorite plug-in I never use: Cosmonaut Voice
Favorite plug-in I am dying to use:
Vinyl (Maybe when I do my version of "Respectable Street")
