Rick-o-Sound box question

Once again I turn to the lazyweb for an answer to my question (I tried search, but didn't get anything helpful).
I recently acquired two Rick-o-Sound boxes. One is pristine, and has a black cord. The other one has seen some use, and the cord is silver and the box itself has a slightly different finish ... more hammered, if that makes any sense at all. I assume the latter is older, and it needs a tiny bit of work (the cord is frayed right behind the plug, but it seems to work fine).
I'm curious if anyone knows how to tell how old a Rick-o-Sound box is. I'm going to sell one, probably the older one, and thought it might be useful to have a ballpark age.
