This is the thread to post any pictures of Ricks with interesting/weird/flamey/quilted/crazy wood figuring.

Yeah all I can find are the super-quilt ones...I know there are some crazy tops out there though.

Dig the "butcher's block" F - I know there are some Capri's out there with similar construction.

That one was featured in an ad back in the 50's...it's in the Smith book.

I have one with unusual neck grain/wood: my 1999 450v63 JG. Here is a not-so-godd picture of the fretboard:
The picture doesn't really do it justice - the wood is more like a walnut in color color and grain, hardly any red/burgundy to it at all. I'll have to try to take a better picture of it with my 450v63 BG that has a normal-looking neck. A well known Rickenbacker expert has looked at it and agreed that it is sort sort of 'odd' wood. Isn't that special?

You could have picked that F up and played it at MARF I, like I did.

That photo has the color gain way up! Even mine is a tad greenish, due to the fluorescent lighting.

The first picture of the F is from an eBay auction...where did that one end up, Jeff?

My 330 has a really cool snaking grain on the fingerboard...I'll try to get a shot of that later.

It belonged to a forumite who sold it sometime last year for a nice hefty sum!

This is probably closer to what it actually looked like, keep in mind I played it back in 11/05/05 plus colors can and do differ on different monitors.

Jeff, where's that picture of your old 660/12 and Cii together on the guitar rack?

Both my 425V63 reissues (also '99s of course!) have fretboards that tend toward brown,more like walnut than the reddish bubinga in almost every other contemporary Rick in my collection. Looks like yours got a hunka hunka with some black in it.

Paul, next time you're down this way, let me know and I'll have you take a look at it.

Nice flame on those geetars there!

It seems like Rickenbackers never get as much credit for their woods as other guitars do...especially considering the whole guitar is made of figured maple, not just some tiny carved sliver glued to the top.
