How to exchange a nut

Just need some advice: I have a nut glued into the fingerboard with superglue

. What is the best way to get it off without damaging the fingerboard too much?

Does heating up before (hairdryer) make any difference? Your comments are highly appreciated!

I just replaced the nut on my '90 V63. You have to score (with an exacto knife) all the the way around the nut, then lightly tap with a hammer to a small block of wood against the nut and should come off no problem. You may have to sand the wood where the glue was. Good Luck, I'm sure you will be fine.

No hairdryer. It could blister the finish, and you'd be hurting almost as much as your guitar...
No more superglue, either. I use it only in a serious pinch, and then only a tiny speck. Correct adhesive is either white or yellow glue (Elmer's or Titebond AR). Just a bit, let it set up for an hour or two, string up, tune to pitch.

Sorry!

I promise: No more superglue for nut replacement!!!
But what is a good trick (is there any) to remove the old one? Basmansam just mentioned the mechanical "crude" procedure.

Talk to it gently, then bang it.

That's how I remove 'em--block of wood, tap with hammer. The scoring is only necessary if there's factory varnish over the nut. And the factory doesn't use super glue...
