There is an Ad in the new issue of 20th Century Guitar (P.74) for Heritage Auction Gallery. The guitar is a Ric 325 "Inspired by John Lennon, Commemorative Prototype Peter Max hand designed Rickenbacker." A picture is shown but in black and white.

Looks just like the one in the window of that NYC shop I can't remember. Graham?
The one I'm thinking of actually had the inlay work done in the Gibson factory!

That is a very nice piece of art. Don't think whoever buys it would ever play it, though.

Somehow I heard you, Jeff. I talked to John Hall about this specifically when Heritage received it as a consignment for our October auction. It is obviously a JL 325 that someone had painted. If Peter Max every got a hold of it, we'll never know unless he says so. The consignor said Yoko commissioned Peter Max to paint it but their is no documentation. Regardless, it is interesting. I have some photos I will post.

John, I doubt that - all the special and meticulous inlaying for Gibson is done by an older woman here in the 'Zoo area - she used to work for Gibson years ago and they still have her do inlays. Like the Hummingbird guards. There was an article in the Gazette about her not too long ago - I think I still have it. If I do I will scan it and send it if you are interested.

A John Lennon-themed Rickenbacker guitar, #1,536 in a limited edition 2,000 designed by noted master luthier Jim Triggs and manufactured in 1991.
Really? There are 2000 of these? Then judging by the number of CS basses for sale on Ebay at any given time, there should be 4 of these on Ebay currently.
