Let me explain my subject line: A few months ago, I bought a 330/12 but, like some others here, had some trouble with chords around the first and second fret. This sent me on the prowl for a 660/12, which I acquired and now thoroughly enjoy--it feels great and sounds great (love the toaster pups). I hardly use the other 12er now. As it turns out, I now have a lead on a used 620 FG for a very good price. I can't afford to buy it outright, but am considering financing the purchase by selling the 330/12. But there's more . . .

I already have a 330/6 and a 360/6, neither of which, for various reasons, I'm willing to part with. So, here's the real question: Since I play/gig/record with these guitars and don't just buy to collect, are there enough differences between the 330/360 and the 620 to warrant this move? This has come up in a couple of past threads, but there didn't seem to be a consensus--some felt the 620, with the neck-through and solid body construction, is a totally (and tonally ) different beast than than the semi-hollow bodies, and some felt they sound basically the same, given the similarity in pups/electronics. Ideally, I'd just sit for awhile and test the 620 so I could hear for myself, but I may not get a great opportunity to do much of a comparison. Any help/insight you all can offer would be much appreciated.

The 620 will indeed have a subtly different sound - whether the difference is negligible enough, well, who knows.

You could always keep different pickups in the guitars - HB's in one, toasters in another, higains in another.

I second that. I had a 660/12 and a 660, but the 360V64 I just got has the sound!

Thanks for the input. I might hang on to the 330/12 after all, but I think I'll want to install toasters at some point.

Mark.....Yeah, if you aren't forced to sell either, you might want to hang on to both of 'em. Depending on the circumstances, sometimes when you let one go you wonder afterwards why you did that. No worries, though. You know best. Good luck with your final decision. Keep on keepin' on.....G-foot.
