Has anyone modded thier 4004, I wish to eliminate the selector switch and add another volume control so I can control the volume on both pick ups, I never use the switch even on my 4003's and C64, I just emailed Rickenbacker in reference to getting another gold knurled knob as only the chrome ones are available in the boutique.

Many 4004 owners here have wired theirs up V-V-T, like a Jazz.

Get what you need and bring it to MARF. I'm sure we could get it done.

When I had my red one, I went with the concentric vol/tone - vol/tone for each pickup, and disconnected the switch. This was a totally reversable mod.

A vast inprovement.

Angelo, on my 4004C I did the concentrics as Scott said but left the switch in. I did not want to drill out the switch hole so a volume pot would fit. Personal preference. Something to think about, the drilling.

I didn't worry about the drilling, or the Forstner bit routing to slightly lengthen the control cavity for the new potentiometer, as the increased tonal range was worth it. There are nice in-between tones that open up the tonal palette. 8)

Thats exactly what im going after Jeff, you hit the nail right on the head, being able to contol the volume on each pick up individually is key for me.

The concentric mod does that, and gives you individual tone control too. And is reversible.

That's what I did - concentrics and left the switch. I have thought about changing the switch to be a 2 way and have the pickups in series, but I think with the power of the HB1's that's not necessary. And although it's also got HB1's, I'm thinking of replacing the switch on my 650D with a 2 way series/paralell switch.

Took me a long time to decide on modding a Rick, but I am pretty glad I did.
