I think John Hall is the designer at RIC. The new fret marker inlay material requires less wood removal so the neck stays stonger.

From where have you learned about the recent changes?

Here's how it happens and pay attention. I have a direct line to the Rickenbacker factory. Every once in a while, I bypass Kenny and ring up JH. I keep the messages short and to the point. "The peghead is too big" I once said. A few years later, it was the correct size. "Redo the Hi-Gains", I sez. They redo them. "Make the FG darker, sexier". They oblige. I am still working to get through on the 21 vs. 24 fret deal. That is my next objective.

Cool, I'd give you my list of suggestions but I don't know if they'd be welcomed
More short scale models, return of the slanted fret.

haha, thanks John! Keep up the good work ;)

also, tell them to bring the real Lightshow back. Can't be too big a request.

Cheers,

There was a post on one of the boards (I don't remember if it was here or at rickenbacker.com) where JH talked about the new material being stronger than the old. The way the material is integrated into the board actually makes it stronger even with the wider slot.

I wish my 381/12 hadthe cut through slots, but then I'm not as much of a Ric traditionalist as some of you guys are, my Rickenpals! :D
