The one on stage left has a *********** 4000, note the bassist on stage right is John Paul Jones! His other two guitarists are no slouches either! :D

This a trés cool tune. 8)

Isn't that guitarist shown at 1:40 one of the guys (Rick bass player?) in that speed video by the guys in space suits - the bass had masking tape on the neck at the inlay positions.

Yes that's Paul Gilbert's bassist Mike Szuter playing a 4000 FG "***********" with a Badass bridge and a Precision style pickup, whose lower left bout had been shaved (ouch!!!) to make it "comfortable". :(

I have the DVD of this show, called "Hard Rock Cafe presents Guitar Wars, Live in Tokyo 2003".
Steve Hackett, John Paul Jones, Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big) and Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) each had their own set and then had an all-star jam ending with Zeppelin's "Rock and roll" in which Gary Cherone (Extreme) sang lead.

John Paul Jones played his Manson 8-string bass for most of his set, awesome!

Steve Hackett is awesome, especially when he shows the dark side. Thanks for the link, I'll have to get that DVD.

Ooops, it was a Manson 10-strings, and used for 1 song, "Tidal", only.

He played his Manson 4-string to back up Nuno Bettencourt.

I think his Manson Kestrel bass is great looking, that would be a fun bass to have. Anyone know whether it is a custom bass or a production instrument?

I tend to think it's a custom bass Hugh Manson built for Mr. JPJ, Jeff.
In case you haven't seen Manson's site yet...

(The 10-string bass doesn't appear there, though.)

Manson's other guitars and basses, no production, all cusom.

By the way, check out brother Andy Manson's masterpiece:

Manson has a line of basses made for order, but most are custom. I have been looking at these for years but the prices are very high. Andy Manson is super nice guy! You can catch him on tour with Yes, as their tech supervisor.

That was the absolute weirdest guitar I've ever seen. Did you see how that guitarist had to play it? Paul, thanks for the links! :D

Amazing woodworking, at first I didn't realize it was just a guitar!

I think Paul needs that in his studio as a welcoming symbol.
